What is an eSIM?
A digital SIM card, already built into your phone. Here is what it actually changes when you travel.
A SIM without the card
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a chip soldered onto your phone's motherboard. Instead of inserting a piece of plastic, you download an operator profile. That profile holds exactly the same information as a physical SIM: identifier, encryption keys, authorised network.
Why it helps when travelling
You buy your local plan from home, before you even leave. No hunting for a shop at the airport, no tray to prise open with a paperclip, no risk of losing your usual SIM at the bottom of a bag.
Two lines at once
Your main line stays installed and active: you keep receiving texts, banking codes and calls on your usual number. The eSIM simply takes over mobile data, with no roaming fees.
What a travel eSIM does not do
Our plans are data plans. They do not give you a local phone number and do not allow standard calls or texts. In practice that is rarely a problem: WhatsApp, Signal, FaceTime and Wi-Fi calling all run over data.
